[College Hill Topeka] City Council Vote for Pigs

The disagreement Ms. Hunt is that the ordinance is for ALL such animals. If it only related to the pot belly I would tend to agree with you. But it does not. It includes all other "farm" animals. I don't want small horses, goats, chickens, and other animals covered under this ordinance to impact my property value not the quality of my life.

 I politely disagree with Mr.
 Smith!
I have owned a potbellied pig as a
pet. I can attest to its friendliness and
quiet demeanor. If one is to clean up the pig
poo as one does dog poo, there
 is no smell
issue. Many owners of potbellied pigs have their pet pig in
 the
house some of the time, where it uses a
 cat litter box.
Sure a herd of pigs kept
outdoors would be offensive - just as a pack of
 rottweiler's would!!!
 A
single pet potbellied pig is no more of a neighborhood
 problem than a
 barking dog kenneled outdoors
 all the time.
I would vote in favor of
allowing someone to keep not only a potbellied pig
as a pet, but also a couple of miniature goats.
 (A couple, because they are
 a herd animal
 and otherwise would be lonely!!)

 Vote for Pigs

 You may or
may not know that a Topekan has requested the Topeka City
Council, through Brenden Jensen, to change the
 city ordinance to allow
 mini-pigs in the
city limits.  Brenen's proposal before the council
 would
allow pigs under a certain weight as
well as hoofed livestock and chickens.
 The
following is my request to the entire Council.  If you
 share my concerns
I would ask that you let
your councilman know before the upcoming vote.

 =====================================================================
I have been following the request to have the
 city approve an ordinance to
 allow mini-pigs
and hoofed animals within the Topeka City limits.

I would like to offer my
request to deny such an ordinance.

I can tell you, from having a pig down the
 street and having chickens behind
 me, that
they are noisy, nasty and smelly.  I am most certain that
 this will
 cause property values to
decline.  A prospective buyer of a property will
more likely than not, back off once it is know
 that there are chickens,
 pigs, goats or
other farm animals living next door.
