*TOPEKA, KANSAS (November 21, 2022)* -- The Topeka Metropolitan Transit
Authority announces plans to launch a microtransit service for the
southeast part of Topeka, starting in January 2023.

The on-demand service, named MOD (Metro On-Demand), will allow customers to
request curb-to-curb transportation within specific service areas. In
addition, passengers will be able to request rides that would arrive within
15 minutes, which is similar to ride share services.

“As we continue to look for new ways to improve, we believe the more
personalized nature of microtransit will be a great addition to our
service," said Bob Nugent, Topeka Metro general manager.

"Microtransit has been around for a while and has proven to be a more
expedient and cost-effective way for folks to travel to where they need to
go."

Passengers can access residential and commercial locations, or even connect
with a fixed route bus for travel outside the defined zones. Hours of MOD
operation will be Monday through Friday from 5:35 a.m. to 6:40 p.m., and
Saturday from 8:15 a.m. to 6:40 p.m. Fees for this shared ride program will
be $2 for a one-way ride. Reduced Fare and youth pricing options are
available.

Topeka Metro will host a series of public meetings beginning November 30th
into December 2022 to explain how MOD will operate and to answer questions.
