A free emergency preparedness fair on Saturday, November 20, 9 a.m. to 12
noon, will help area residents be ready to handle natural disasters and
other emergencies, such as home fires, power outages, and accidents.  The
event will take place at the Topeka Stake Center of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2401 SW Kingsrow Road

The American Red Cross, Kansas Emergency Management, and individuals from
several different Topeka churches will have displays and information about
a wide variety of subjects:related to emergency readiness:  e.g.,
communication in an emergency, staying warm when electricity or natural gas
supplies have been disrupted, 72-hour kits for urban homes and for disabled
people, first aid kits for the home and car, a vehicle emergency kit,
preservation of important papers in an emergency, water purification; Dutch
oven cooking and other kinds of cooking without electricity and gas, freeze
drying foods, creating and rotating a short-term supply of food; taking
care of pets in an emergency, and supplies to detect and remove home
hazards.



A presentation about how to get started with emergency preparations will be
offered several times throughout the event.
