Subject: YWCA Hope for the Holidays: Give the Gift of Empowerment This
Holiday Season
To:
TOPEKA, KS – The holiday season is upon us. This year in lieu of the annual
Holiday Store, YWCA Northeast Kansas is asking the community to consider
giving the gift of empowerment by donating gift cards to support survivors
and their families this holiday season.
Suggested gift cards in amounts of $25, $50, $75 and $100 to general retail
stores (e.g., Wal-Mart, Target, Big Lots, Sam’s Club, Bed Bath and Beyond,
etc.) or VISA cards preferred; however, any amount will be greatly
appreciated. Gift cards can be mailed to the YWCA Northeast Kansas at 225
SW 12 <https://www.google.com/maps/search/225+SW+12?entry=gmail&source=g>th
Street,
Topeka, KS 66612 or dropped off between the hours of 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Monday through Friday. To allow clients time to shop for their families, a
deadline for donations is set for Friday, December 11th, 2020 at 5:30 PM;
however, gift cards for “Hope for the Holidays” will be accepted until
Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020 at 5:30 PM.
Last year, the YWCA was able to serve 342 individuals (144 adults and 198
children) through the generosity of the Holiday Store. In the words of a
survivor, “I had to leave everything behind (clothing, toys, mementos) to
flee an unsafe situation. [The Holiday Store] allows for me to provide my
kids with a happy holiday, even though things are uncertain right now.”
While the current COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the service delivery of
the YWCA annual holiday giving, the YWCA is still on a mission to make this
season a little brighter for those who are impacted by domestic violence,
sexual assault, human trafficking and stalking.
