Hello, everyone.

If you haven’t already heard, it’s that time again for Bike/Ped Counts. Our
planning department is scheduling bike counts in September to help track
where we see bicyclists and pedestrians in our City. We’ve attached the
flyer for volunteer spots. If you would like to sign up, let us know.

The short version: The counts will be 10 a.m. to Noon and 5-7 p.m. Sept. 13
(Wednesday) and Noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 16 (Saturday). There are at least 14
locations in need of volunteers for *EACH* shift, so all together we need
between *40 and 50 volunteers* (though people can sign up for more than one
shift). New volunteers have to go to training (I promise, it’s quick and
easy): 6-7 p.m. Sept. 5 (Tuesday) and 11 a.m. to Noon Sept. 6 (Wednesday).

The Bike Counts are done nationally, so other cities participate and submit
their results, then all the results are combined and analyzed. This will be
Topeka’s fifth year participating in the bike counts. Past counts have told
us we are seeing an increase in bicycle and pedestrian usage. Reports from
counts taken 2013 through 2016 can be found at www.topekampo.org.

Let me know if you have any questions and please spread the word!

P.S. We will be having another pizza party concluding the event. It was a
lot of fun last year and we had a ton of great pizza!

Thank you,

*Taylor Ricketts*
