Leathers Date: Tue, Feb 21, 2023 at 9:23 AM Subject: RE: Kansas Homeowner Assistance Fund in Hold Phase To: New applications to be reviewed, processed subject to availability of funds *Kansas Homeowner Assistance Fund in hold phase* *New applications to be reviewed, processed subject to availability of funds* The *Kansas Homeowner Assistance Fund (KHAF* *)* , a federally funded, temporary emergency program to support homeowners experiencing hardship during the COVID pandemic, has dispersed nearly all program funds and will close soon. KHAF was established with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to help qualifying Kansas homeowners get current on their mortgage payments and avoid foreclosure. Since the program launched in April 2022, KHAF has provided *$42,599,772* to *3,797 * households. *The KHAF program is now in the Hold Phase*, the second of three closure phases. On January 30, 2023, *households were encouraged to apply for assistance as soon as possible* . The program has now received enough applications to exhaust all current funds, ending Final Funding phase. *Applications submitted during Final Funding Phase will still be reviewed and processed, subject to available funding. * The closure process will follow three phases. Here?s what this means for Kansas homeowners in need of assistance: 1. *Final Funding Phase:* On Jan. 30, 2023, homeowners seeking KHAF support were encouraged to apply to be considered for final funding. 2. *Hold Phase:* The program has received enough applications to fully expend all KHAF funds. *Applications submitted during Hold Phase will be placed on hold and will not be reviewed or processed unless sufficient program funds are available.* ?3. *Closure Phase: *When all program funds are exhausted the program will close and will stop accepting new applications. *The KHAF program is now in Hold Phase.* The length and dates of each phase will be subject to a variety of factors, including application volume and amount of assistance requested. Each program closure phase will be announced on the *KHAF webpage.* For more questions, applicants can reach KHAF customer service at 855-307-KHAF (5423), or review the *KHAF closure FAQs* . KHRC?s *ongoing housing programs* will continue to serve Kansans beyond the closure of the KHAF program. ### The KHAF program is administered by *Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC)* *,* a self-supporting, nonprofit, public corporation committed to helping Kansans access the safe, affordable housing they need and the dignity they deserve. KHRC serves as the state?s housing finance agency, administering essential housing and community programs to serve Kansans. This year join PAT families and other early childhood advocates for a Read-in in the rotunda of the Capitol. We want to show lawmakers that families value Early Childhood programs! ------------------------------ Can't join the event but still want to support Early Childhood and PAT? Here's what you can do - Representatives prefer to hear directly from their constituents. There is a quick and easy way to locate your rep along with all of their contact information. Enter your address at: ksleglookup.org - You will be able to download and print a postcard to send to your legislators. One is ready for a little person to color and for you to write a few reasons PAT is important your family. You can send as many as you want. Find the link below. - Send a book to support the book drive. Help transform the statehouse rotunda into an early childhood reading space for Advocacy Day. Send a book here. https://bit.ly/ECbooksKS - Join the Topeka PAT Advisory Board and Kansas Parents as Teachers Association (KPATA) March 22, 2023 from 4:30-6:30pm at the Beacon for a Advocacy event with KS legislators. More information will follow. - After identifying who your legislators are, you can find their contact information directly on the site. Emails are wonderful, but a phone call makes a huge impact. It is best to set an appointment so that you can be sure to speak directly to your legislator and not leave a message. You want to keep things short, to the point, and always polite-no matter how you feel about their politics. *Here is a sample of things you can say:* Hello (TITLE-Use REPRESENTATIVE ________ or SENATOR _________)My name is ______________________ and I am your constituent in the (ZIP CODE). I wanted to reach out to you today to tell you how important Parents as Teachers has been to me/my family. Then give 3-5 sentences of a personal story about PAT and your family OR USE 3 TALKING POINTS - The pandemic has added many stressors to parenting and having my parent educator provide support, resources, and connection during a time of lots of isolation has been invaluable to my family. - Parents as Teachers has increased my knowledge of my child(ren)s development and how I can better prepare them for Kindergarten. - I know that investing in Parents as Teachers will ensure that more Kansas children are reading at grade level at 3rd grade. - When parents are provided information about age appropriate expectations of their children, we know there are less instances of child abuse and neglect. - The screenings that are done by PAT help catch developmental delays and health problems early so that interventions can be started quickly to reduce long term complications and better prepare children and parents for school readiness. I invite you to reach out to our PAT program and join a visit or group connection or playgroup if you haven't done so before. I appreciate you taking time to speak with me today. Do you have any questions for me? Have a great day.
