Over the last several years it has become increasingly more difficult to recruit and maintain bus operators. This has been the experience both regionally and nationally. Recent examples of this were experienced last fall by our local schools and again a few weeks ago by our fellow transit providers in Lawrence. Until recently, Topeka Metro has had an adequate workforce. However, during the last two years, COVID-19 has dramatically changed our economy and ultimately our employment. Many of our local businesses are experiencing these same employment issues. However, the difference between our service and many of these businesses is that we provide a critical link to jobs, medical facilities, schools and shopping and it is a link that must be delivered on the hour and close to the minute. The lack of adequate bus operators jeopardizes our ability to operate on a consistent and reliable basis. Further details regarding the public meetings can be located by clicking this *link for the public notice* . Topeka Metro will also have information on our website at *www.topekametro.org * and social media channels *Facebook * and *Twitter* . Those attending the meetings must wear a face covering. Topeka Metro will not provide face masks. *CONTACT:* Keri Renner Director of Marketing & Communications Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority 201 N. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) today has adopted the Center for Disease Control and Prevention?s (CDC) expanded vaccine booster eligibility recommendations regarding Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster recommendations to include adolescents 12-15 years old. This recommendation also includes a shorter booster waiting period for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine; reducing the time between the primary series and the booster dose to 5 months. Moderately or severely immunocompromised children ages 5-11 can now also receive an additional primary dose of the COVID-19 vaccine administered 28 days after the second dose of the primary series. The following graph outlines the differences between each authorized vaccine boost dose and the eligibility of each vaccine variety: *COVID-19 Booster Doses* *Pfizer-BioNTech* *Moderna* *Janssen (J&J)* *Eligibility* 12 years of age and older 18 years of age and older All Recipients *Time between primary series and booster* At least 5 months At least 6 months At least 2 months *Authorized Dosage* 0.3mL (Full Dose) 0.25mL (Half Dose) 0.5mL (Full Dose) Individuals are encouraged to discuss with their medical provider any questions surrounding their eligibility for a booster dose. However, a letter or prescription from a qualified medical provider or a letter from a workplace setting will *not* *be required*. Individuals are encouraged to bring their CDC vaccination card as documentation of their primary vaccine series; however, this is *not* *required*. Individuals may receive *ANY* authorized booster type, regardless of the primary vaccine series received. The Shawnee County Health Department (SCHD) continues to strongly encourage residents to protect themselves by getting a COVID-19 vaccine and a booster when they are eligible. Many opportunities to receive a COVID-19 vaccine continue to exist in our community and can be found easily through the CDC?s Vaccine tool . To: *Good morning!* The Real-World Parenting Series is back in 2022, and based on feedback from RWP participants as well as FSGC staff, we're trying something new. Each month, we'll highlight a different topic related to mental health challenges that kids and teens experience. On the first three Thursdays of the month, we?ll post a helpful 3-5 minute Facebook video on the Topic of the Month. January's topic is Childhood Trauma, and our first Thursday video will be out Thursday, January 13 (Sorry ? the holidays have us running a little late!). Then, on the fourth Thursday of each month, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. CT, we will host a *live Zoom Q&A* featuring an FSGC mental health professional. They will answer live questions about the Topic of the Month during the Q&A as well as pre-submitted questions. January's live Q&A will be Thursday, January 27. Real-World Parenting is *FREE*, but parents have to register to get the link and participate in the Q&A. To register, visit *https://www.FSGCtopeka.com/parenting* and look for the Topic of the Month. I?ve attached a jpg of this month?s flyer with all the dates and details. Please share it in your communications (e-newsletters, emails, social media, etc.) with parents, co-workers and others who might be interested. Please encourage them to join us! We also have information on our Facebook page (facebook.com/fsgctopeka). The goal of Real-World Parenting is to pass along practical ideas and advice that parents can actually use to raise healthier, happier kids. By offering videos parents can watch anytime and giving them the opportunity to ask questions that are important to them, we hope we?re helping in a way that is convenient and helpful to your families. If you have any questions about Real-World Parenting Conversations, feel free to e-mail or call me (270.8907).
