Subject: Grief and mourning are April's FSGC Real-World Parenting Topics
To:
*Good morning!*
Our Real-World Parenting Topics for April are grief and mourning. These are
very complicated feelings, especially with young children who really can’t
conceive of an idea like death. Divorce, separation, the loss of a pet and
even the pandemic with its cancelled concerts, sporting events, proms and
other opportunities to be with friends have made us look at loss in a new
way. These feelings can have a major negative impact on kids’ lives.
*A live Real-World Parenting Q&A session about grief and mourning will be
offered via Zoom on Thursday, April 28, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. *Karen
Smothers, LSCSW, LCAC, will answer live questions from Q&A attendees as
well as pre-submitted questions.
The Real-World Parenting Q&A is *FREE*, but parents have to register to get
the Zoom link. That’s also when they’ll have the chance to pre-submit a
question for the Q&A. To register, visit
*https://www.FSGCtopeka.com/parenting*
<https://www.FSGCtopeka.com/parenting> and click the red “Register Here.”
Parents and guardians can also watch short, informational videos on grief
and mourning every Thursday. Check them out at FSGC’s Facebook page (
*facebook.com/fsgctopeka* <https://facebook.com/fsgctopeka>) or
*https://www.fsgctopeka.com/parenting-resources
<https://www.fsgctopeka.com/parenting-resources>*.
I’ve attached a jpg of this month’s flyer with all the details. Please
share it in your communications (e-newsletters, emails, social media, etc.)
with parents, community partners and others who might be interested and
encourage them to join us! We also have information on our Facebook page (
facebook.com/fsgctopeka).
The goal of Real-World Parenting is to pass along ideas and advice that
parents can actually use to raise healthier, happier kids. If you have any
questions about Real-World Parenting Conversations, feel free to e-mail or
call Jim Williamson at (270.8907). Thanks for all you do to help create a
better community!
