*Topeka, Kan.* ? This week the Kansas Department of Health and Environment
(KDHE) authorized all COVID-19 vaccine providers in Kansas to begin
administering Moderna and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson)

COVID-19 boosters in addition to Pfizer-BioNTech booster shots to eligible
individuals following the guidance received from the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) the same morning.



The following graph outlines the differences between each authorized
vaccine boost dose and the eligibility of each vaccine variety:



*COVID-19 Booster Doses*



*Pfizer-BioNTech*

*Moderna*

*Janssen (J&J)*

*Eligibility*

65 years of age and older; ages 18+ who live in long-term care; ages 18+
who have underlying health conditions; ages 18+ who work or live in
high-risk settings

All Recipients

*Time between primary series and booster*

At least 6 months

At least 6 months

At least 2 months

*Authorized Dosage*

0.3mL (Full Dose)

0.25mL (Half Dose)

0.5mL (Full Dose)



Individuals are encouraged to discuss with their medical provider any
questions surrounding their eligibility for a booster dose. However, a
letter or prescription from a qualified medical provider or a letter from a
workplace setting will *not* *be required*. Individuals are encouraged to
bring their CDC vaccination card as documentation of their primary vaccine
series; however, this is *not* *required*.



Individuals may receive *ANY* booster type, regardless of the primary
vaccine series received.



The Shawnee County Health Department (SCHD) continues to strongly encourage
residents to protect themselves by getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

Many opportunities to receive a COVID-19 vaccine continue to exist in our
community and can be found easily through the CDC?s Vaccine tool

The SCHD is offering COVID-19 vaccine boosters, in addition to other
vaccines, at their Clinical Services Division, located at 2115 SW 10

at Hummer has transitioned to a different vendor. It looks like we are

As part of the State?s Testing Expansion Initiative the Shawnee County
Health Department has collaborated with the Kansas Department of Health and

and is available FREE of charge to any individual regardless of symptoms or

2, 2021 to recommend the Pediatric Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for emergency
use authorization the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE)
authorized all COVID-19 vaccine providers in Kansas to begin administering
vaccine starting November 3, 2021 to children ages 5 to 11 following
guidance received from the CDC.



Starting today, Thursday November 4, 2021 the Shawnee County Health
Department (SCHD) will begin offering the Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric
vaccine, in addition to other vaccines, at their Clinical Services
Division, located at 2115 SW 10

The Shawnee County Parks & Recreation staff have started the enormous task
of planting tulip bulbs in the county park gardens throughout Topeka.

Over 47,000 bulbs will be planted this Fall in Ted Ensley Gardens and other
gardens maintained by the Parks & Rec. Department.



"Here at Ted Ensley Gardens, we have over 40,000 tulip bulbs that we have
been planting. We have about 20,000 planted so far.

All of the volunteers and employees have been really busy making this a
beautiful place come spring." Kimberly Wolff, Partnership Development
Specialist for the Parks For All Foundation.



Many of the tulip bulbs are planted by volunteers. If anyone is interested

Communities In Schools of Mid-America is excited to announce the return of
in-person FutureNow: Finance events in Topeka. The first event of the
2021-22 school year is scheduled for November 17th and 18th. We are looking
for volunteers to help guide students as they learn to balance their
monthly budget and build their financial literacy. Sessions are about 90
minutes long and we have lots of spots to fill.

Applications *close Friday at 5 p.m.* for our 7th annual Season of Sharing
holiday giving program.  If you know of an individual or family in the
Topeka/Shawnee County area in need of a hand up this season, please *nominate
them or encourage them to apply *at www.ourcommunitycares.org   As a
reminder we are unable to help with bill payment or the purchase or repair
of vehicles.

This program supports individuals and families during the holiday season by
providing unique services or fulfilling needs that cannot typically be met
by other holiday giving programs.  We will grant wishes to recipients from
Thanksgiving Day to Christmas Day.

Good evening, Neighbors ~Shawnee County Parks and Recreation is planning to make some very exciting and positive updates and improvements to our Boswell Park. New projects include new fencing, more lights, new swings, a natural play area and potentially a shelter house structure. In order to build a new shelter house structure, the existing wooden gazebo will be removed. Understandably, removing the existing wooden gazebo is a big deal and neighbors have strong thoughts about both sides of this issue. SNCO Parks and Recreation representatives have made it clear that we may keep the existing gazebo OR remove it and build a new structure. We may not have both.
?To keep all neighbors informed on the County's plan, CHNA will have an in-person meeting to share information about the park improvements and show photos of the potential shelter house. SNCO Parks and Recreation staff will not attend the meeting. This is an informational meeting for neighbors where neighbors will be asked to vote whether to keep the existing gazebo, or replace it with a new structure. (ONLY College Hill residents may vote. 1 vote per household.)
The last time we gathered as a group, at the chili contest in 2019, College Hill neighbors voted on their wishes for Boswell Park and the top vote-getters were:1. A natural play area2. More lighting around the park3. A shelter house in the park4. Gazebo repair
Listed below are some examples of the shelter house that would be built in Boswell Park. The photos are to give neighbors a general ideal of the structure. Details like color, railings and inserting a College Hill emblem would be figured in later.

TOPEKA FIRE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCEMENT ? FIRE EMS CADET



The Topeka Fire Department is seeking individuals to attend a paid
internship to become an Emergency Medical Technician and learn different
aspects of the fire service in preparation for a potential career as a
Topeka Firefighter.  Selected candidates will work and be paid for up to 30
hours per week.  The internship will include participation in a department
sponsored Emergency Medical Technician class.  To become a Topeka
Firefighter applicants must have completed the Emergency Medical Technician
course, this internship will offer the opportunity to take this class at no
cost while being paid as an intern.  Selected interns will work Monday
through Friday.



The minimum requirements for the internship are as follows:

-Candidate must be at least 18 years of age.

-Candidate must have a High School Diploma or equivalent

-Candidate must have a desire to help others.

Last year, YWCA was able to serve 238 individuals (160 adults and 78
children) through the generosity of the Holiday Store. In the words of a
survivor, ?I had to leave everything behind (clothing, toys, mementos) to
flee an unsafe situation. [Hope for the Holidays] allows for me to provide
my kids with a happy holiday, even though things are uncertain right now.?
While the current COVID-19 pandemic has continued to impact the service
delivery of YWCA annual holiday giving, YWCA is still on a mission to make
this season a little brighter for those who are impacted by domestic

Since COVID-19 began, some neighborhoods are hesitant to meet in person,
but I want you to know that we are still here to provide services to you. I
hope you are staying safe and healthy during this difficult time.  Happy
Thanksgiving to you and your family.



Information covered in this email includes shopping tips, vehicle safety,
license plate tips, mail tips.  Please share this information with others
who may not have email.



*Shopping*

Shopping will be different this year with COVID-19 since some businesses
are requiring masks to enter their business. Please be sure to wear your
mask to protect you and the other person. COVID-19 is still spreading so be
very careful when you are out and about.



Are you going to take advantage of the sales this holiday season? Whether
you are committed to Black Friday bargains at midnight, weekday shopping,
online purchases or last-minute deals, Safe Streets has a few tips to keep
you safe while shopping this holiday season.

?         Know your surroundings and put the cell phone away when you?re
walking in public.
Walk confidently, in well-lit areas, paying attention to the people around
you.

?     Never leave a purse or wallet unattended ? especially in a shopping
cart, vehicle or
             restroom stall floor. Ladies, consider wearing a ?cross-body?
style purse.

?     Avoid carrying large amounts of cash and take only the credit card(s)
you need.

?     Never leave purchases in plain sight in your vehicle. Store them in
your trunk or take
             them home!

?         When you put your purchases in your vehicle and plan to go back
to purchase more items, move your car to a different location.

?     Be patient with people and with other vehicles!



If ordering online, here are a couple of things you can do to ensure your
package is received:

     ?      Request a signature confirmation of delivery

     ?      Ask neighbors to watch for deliveries and agree to secure each
other?s packages

     ?      Deliver to workplace (if allowed)

     ?      Track packages online

     ?      Sign up for text notifications of delivery status.


*Protecting Your Vehicle and Belongings* Nothing is more frustrating than
going to get in your car, only to find the window smashed and your
belongings gone.   There are steps you can take to reduce the likelihood of
this happening to you.   First of all, remove all valuables from sight. A
car burglar typically walks through a parking area peering into cars just
looking for something of interest to him or her. If you have a removable
(pullout) stereo or faceplate, that is ideal! If not, at least remove
accessories that may draw attention to the stereo. (CDs, tapes, remotes,
etc.) Also, remove cell phones, briefcases, and duffle bags. Do not leave
loose change in the cup holder or ash tray - that may attract a thief. Law
enforcement reminds us to never leave a gun in your vehicle.   *License
plates* Next time you go to a hardware store, purchase a couple of ?tamper
resistant bolts.?  Replace the screws that secure your license plate to
your car with these. This will slow down anyone trying to steal your plate
because they will need a special tool and will likely just move to the next
car. In addition, when you put your next registration sticker on your
vehicle, remove the old ones layered underneath. If your sticker is
securely adhered to the metal plate and someone tries to peel it off it
will pull apart and void the sticker. If you have layered the sticker
already, you may want to use a razor blade and carve an ?X? through the
sticker. This will discourage a thief who will see the sticker coming off
in four little parts if they try to remove it.

*To keep your car from becoming a statistic: *

?                     Always lock all doors.

?                     Roll windows up tight.

?                     Park in heavily traveled areas.

?                     Don't hide spare keys-they can be found.

?                     Don't think it can't happen to you - act before, not
after the crime.



While you've been reading this information, 10 cars were stolen in this
country. They were stolen because the opportunity was there. If you have
taken these protective measures, you may deter the theft of your car and
save yourself a lot of money and inconvenience!



*Mail*

A neighborhood told me that someone is taking mail out of their mailbox.
Just a reminder, it is best to take the mail to the post office because
once a person puts mail in the mailbox with the flag up, it is an
opportunity for someone to know that a person may be paying a bill or other
mail that might have their personal information.  If a person is not able
to take mail to the post office, it might be good to know about when the
mail carrier is in your neighborhood.

Good evening, Neighbors ~Shawnee County Parks and Recreation is planning to
make some very exciting and positive updates and improvements to our
Boswell Park. New projects include new fencing, more lights, new swings, a
natural play area and potentially a shelter house structure. In order to
build a new shelter house structure, the existing wooden gazebo will be
removed. Understandably, removing the existing wooden gazebo is a big deal
and neighbors have strong thoughts about both sides of this issue. SNCO
Parks and Recreation representatives have made it clear that we may keep
the existing gazebo OR remove it and build a new structure. We may not have
both.

To keep all neighbors informed on the County's plan, CHNA will have an
in-person meeting to share information about the park improvements and show
photos of the potential shelter house. SNCO Parks and Recreation staff will
not attend the meeting. This is an informational meeting for neighbors
where neighbors will be asked to vote whether to keep the existing gazebo,
or replace it with a new structure. (ONLY College Hill residents may vote.
1 vote per household.)

The last time we gathered as a group, at the chili contest in 2019, College
Hill neighbors voted on their wishes for Boswell Park and the top
vote-getters were:
1. A natural play area
2. More lighting around the park
3. A shelter house in the park
4. Gazebo repair

Listed below are some examples of the shelter house that would be built in
Boswell Park. The photos are to give neighbors a general ideal of the
structure. Details like color, railings and inserting a College Hill emblem
would be figured in later.

The American Red Cross, Kansas Emergency Management, and individuals from
several different Topeka churches will have displays and information about

people, first aid kits for the home and car, a vehicle emergency kit,
preservation of important papers in an emergency, water purification; Dutch
oven cooking and other kinds of cooking without electricity and gas, freeze
drying foods, creating and rotating a short-term supply of food; taking
care of pets in an emergency, and supplies to detect and remove home
hazards.



A presentation about how to get started with emergency preparations will be
offered several times throughout the event.

Subject: [College Hill Topeka] Handbell Choir 12/7 at 7

Westminster Presbyterian Church is hosting the Lawrence Community Handbell Choir on Tuesday, December 7 at 7:00. 
In addition to Christmas handbell music we'll also have a Christmas Hymn Sing. 
Afterward we'll have cookies and hot chocolate to-go bags. 
The event is free and is open to all!
Our church is located at 1275 SW Boswell (corner of 13th and Boswell). 
Please use the South entrance. We also have an elevator entrance on the East side.  
Bring a friend or two!
