The Shawnee County COVID-19 Response Team Phase 2 vaccine distribution weekly update includes the number of vaccines delivered and administered by the Shawnee County Vaccine Collaborative. The vaccine collaborative, which includes Stormont Vail Health, The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus, GraceMed, VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System and the Shawnee County Health Department (SCHD) continues to meet their objectives and goals based on the vaccine doses received. The SCHD and the Vaccine Collaborative will now be providing six doses per vial of the Pfizer vaccine. These extra doses pulled from the vials will continue to be undertaken in accordance with the Kansas Department of Health Environment (KDHE) guidelines, which has previously ruled that this will allow for more scheduled vaccinations versus the five doses per vial originally. SCHD anticipates that the weekly allocation of 3,510 prime doses are expected to arrive on time this week, by Wednesday, March 3, 2021. SCHD continues to receive the necessary boost dose shipments weekly. Those who will be vaccinated this week by the Shawnee County Vaccine Collaborative will be individuals over the age of 65, childcare workers and mass transportation workers, as well as any individuals from previous phases. Approximately 700 doses of the Moderna vaccine are being distributed ?directly? from the Federal Government to local Shawnee County pharmacies who are registered as a part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. Due to winter weather delays in previous weeks some allocations were not initially received. The allocation of the doses distributed to the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System is not available at this time. As of February 23, 2021, there have been approximately 18,800 individuals, 65 and older, that have been vaccinated in Shawnee County. As of February 26, 2021, there have been approximately 4,208 K-12 staff that have been vaccinated. The Shawnee County Vaccine Collaborative is actively working with our private sector partners to provide vaccines to those in Shawnee County who are considered to be ?homebound?. The Shawnee County Appraiser will mail the 2021 Change of Value Notices today on March 1, 2021, to approximately 64,000 real estate parcels this year. In a continued effort to save taxpayers money, only those properties that have changes in the assessed value or property classification will automatically receive notices by mail. If there has been no change in the assessed value or classification, a valuation notice will *NOT be mailed unless requested*. Property owners who do not receive a notice but who wish to obtain one, or inquire about their appraised value or property classification may do so by going to the county appraiser?s real estate search website www.snco.us/ap or the direct search at https://ares.sncoapps.us/ . They may also call the taxpayer assistance phone number 785-232-4461, contact us by email at snappraiser at snco.us , or they may visit the office at 1515 NW Saline Street . Failure to receive a valuation notice does not preclude property owners from appealing their 2021 appraised value or property classification. Property owners may call the taxpayer assistance phone number 785-232-4461 to schedule an appeal or ask questions. If the property owner believes the appraised value or classification is incorrect, the timeframe in which to file an informal equalization appeal is March 1, 2021 through March 31, 2021. Property owners who do not appeal within that timeframe will have the opportunity to file an appeal when they pay their taxes in December this year, or second half payment in May of 2022. The Shawnee County Health Department (SCHD) continues to follow the directives of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the guidance from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as it relates to administering COVID-19 vaccine in our community. On January 21, 2021, KDHE gave local health departments the authority to begin vaccinating individuals in Phase 2. This phase in the State?s COVID-19 Vaccine Prioritization plan focuses on persons aged 65 and older, high-contact critical workers, congregate settings and anyone previously eligible to receive a vaccine in Phase 1. SCHD currently receives a weekly finite vaccine allocation based on population within the current Phase. In Shawnee County, Phase 2 has been broken into two sub-phases, 2A and 2B, to ensure equitable distribution. *Beginning Thursday March 11, 2021, Shawnee County will enter into Phase 2B.* SCHD estimates that there are at least 25,000 individuals in Phase 2B and the Shawnee County Vaccine Collaborative anticipates a minimum of 4 weeks in this phase at current allocations levels from KDHE. As outlined in previous communications, individuals previously eligible to receive a vaccine in Phase 1 and Phase 2A will continue to be vaccinated. Should the KDHE provide more allocations than expected, based on the current models they are utilizing, SCHD and the vaccine taskforce will update the timeline. Workers included in Phase 2 must meet two qualifications: ? They must meet the definition of a critical worker as outlined by the Department of Homeland Security . ? They must come into consistent and close contact with a large number of individuals throughout their work day. High-contact workers, by definition, do not have the ability to work from home or easily move to distance themselves from others. Shawnee County Health Department in partnership with the Shawnee County Vaccine Collaborative have identified high-contact critical workers in the following two categories: 1. Any worker employed in the following industries: - Food processing (includes meatpacking plants) - Food distribution (includes grocery stores, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, coffee shops, food counters/cafeterias, meal delivery services, farmers markets, sale barns, food cooperatives and food trucks) - Large-scale aviation manufacturing plants - Transportation (includes railroad, airports, taxi, Uber/Lyft) 1. Workers employed in a specific role: - Cashiers and public-interacting counter workers (includes within retail, cosmetic counters, jewelry stores, convenience stores, warehouses and sales outlets) - Clergy - Librarians - Farm, ranch or livestock workers who share worker housing/transportation - Higher education faculty/staff - Government continuity (e.g. IT, HR, Water/Solid Waste, Treasurer's office, Parks/Rec, Public works, Courts, Press/Media, Contracted services) Scheduling is now open for individuals at all current vaccination locations in Shawnee County. Visit the SCHD Vaccine webpage ( http://www.snco.us/hd/COVID19_Vaccination.asp ) or KDHE?s Find My Vaccine tool ( https://www.kansasvaccine.gov/160/Find-My-Vaccine ) to find the closest vaccinating entity to you. For those employers who are partnering with a member of the Vaccine Collaborative to administer employee vaccinations, please schedule your vaccination through your employer. *All individuals are asked to bring a form of employment identification to their vaccine appointment. *Examples include but are not limited to; name badges, paystubs or an employer letter confirming employment in a high-contact critical worker position. Traffic may be cyclical?increasing on weekends or late at night, or minimal for a few weeks and then intense for a period of a few days?particularly pay days. > Visitors appear to be acquaintances rather than friends. > People bring ?valuables? into the home ? TVs, bikes, cameras ? and leave empty-handed. > Visitors may sit in a car for awhile after leaving the residence or may leave one person in the car while the other visits. > ?Lookouts,? frequently younger people, tend to hang around the property during heavy traffic hours. > Various signs such as people exchanging small packets for cash, people using drugs while sitting in their cars, syringes on the lawn, or other paraphernalia lying about. > Regular activity at extremely late hours ? frequent commotion between midnight and 4 a.m. on weeknights. (Both cocaine and methamphetamine are stimulants ? users tend to stay up at night.) > > Landlords May Observe: > > Failure to pay utility bills or rent, deposit and rent paid in cash, failure to maintain the house in appropriate condition, and/or general damage to the property. Some dealers smoke or inject much of their profits - as they get more involved in the drugs, they are more likely to ignore bills, maintenance, housekeeping, and yard work. > > Distribution: > > ?Distributors? are those who sell larger quantities of drugs to individual dealers or other small distributors. They are the ?wholesale? component while dealers are the ?retail? component. If the distributors are not taking the drugs themselves, they can be difficult to identify. A combination of the following indicators may be significant: > > Expensive vehicles that seem out of place for that area. Some distributors make it a practice to spend their money on items that are easily moved ? so they might drive a $50,000 car while renting a $20,000 house. > Regular car switching, especially at odd hours ? the people arrive in one car and leave in another. The Shawnee County Health Department (SCHD) continues to follow the guidance provided by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as it relates to administering COVID-19 vaccine in our community. KDHE announced today that local health departments could begin vaccinating individuals in Phases 3 and 4, starting on Monday, March 22, 2021. These two phases in the State?s COVID-19 Vaccine Prioritization plan focus on persons aged 16-64 with certain medical conditions, critical workers who cannot work remotely but did not meet the definition of high-contact and anyone previously eligible to receive a vaccine in Phases 1 and 2. SCHD currently receives a weekly finite vaccine allocation from KDHE based on population within the Phase; currently Shawnee County is allocated 3510 doses weekly. Shawnee County has not yet been informed of an increase to its current weekly allocation with the addition of Phases 3 and 4. It is the priority of Shawnee County to vaccinate and protect those individuals at highest risk of hospitalization and death from COVID-19. To facilitate this priority, the health department has determined the following timeline for vaccinating Phases 3 and 4: ? *Monday, March 22, 2021* - Shawnee County will expand vaccination to persons aged 16-64 with medical risks that increase the severity of COVID-19 (see below). ? *Monday, April 12, 2021* - Shawnee County will expand vaccination to all individuals eligible through Phase 4; including critical workers who cannot work remotely. Any individual who has a qualifying medical condition may now schedule an appointment at any vaccination location in Shawnee County. Qualifying medical conditions for individuals aged 16-64 (based on the KDHE Vaccine Prioritization by Population Guidance and CDC - People with Certain Medical Conditions ): ? Cancer (any personal history) ? Cerebrovascular disease (aneurysm, arterial stenosis, stroke/TIA, vascular malformation) ? Chronic kidney disease (any stage) ? Chronic lung disease (moderate or severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis or pulmonary fibrosis) ? Cigarette/cigar smoking or vaping (active use) ? Down syndrome ? Heart conditions (arrhythmia, cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease, heart failure, high blood pressure or pulmonary hypertension) ? Immunosuppression (chronic corticosteroid/immunomodulator use, congenital/acquired immune deficiencies, history of solid organ/blood/bone marrow transplant or HIV) ? Liver disease (alcohol-related, chronic hepatitis B or C, cirrhosis, fatty liver) ? Neurologic conditions (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or motor neuron disease, dementia, Guillain-Barre syndrome or autoimmune/inflammatory neuropathy, multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis) ? Obesity/Overweight (BMI *>* 25) ? Pregnancy ? Sickle cell disease ? Thalassemia ? Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (diet controlled or requiring medication) Visit the SCHD Vaccine webpage ( http://www.snco.us/hd/COVID19_Vaccination.asp) or KDHE?s Find My Vaccine tool (https://www.kansasvaccine.gov/160/Find-My-Vaccine) to find the closest vaccinating entity to you. Because of you and the work of our volunteers, the neighborhood collected 348 pounds of aluminum cans and 379 pounds miscellaneous metals resulting in $112.00 for College Hill! We thank and appreciate VERY MUCH all the people who contributed their recyclables! Since the neighborhood recycling drives began in September 1990, our College Hill Association has received *$14.115.08* from recycling! Many thanks also to the neighbors who helped to pick up and deliver recyclables, Susan and Clark Duffy; Frank and Sarah Meadows; James and Harley Stamper, and John & Carol Christensen. Our next recycling drive will be Saturday, July 10, the Saturday after the 4th of July. We ask again that neighbors pre-sort their recyclables for the next drive. Cat food and tuna cans, aluminum pie plates, and aluminum foil are to be bagged with steel cans, not aluminum beverage cans. Because aluminum beverage cans bring in the greatest amount of money from these drives, we ask that neighbors save them for College Hill. If you need to get rid of your aluminum cans before our next drive please contact the Chistensens at 785-554-8068. They have graciously offered to store recyclables until the next drive July 10th. Three cases of the B.1.1.7 variant that causes COVID-19 have been identified in Shawnee County and confirmed via whole genome sequencing conducted through the laboratories at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). Shawnee County received confirmation of these three cases this morning. These are the first cases of this variant to be identified in Shawnee County and among more than 30 cases of this variant identified across Kansas. Variant strains are mutations of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that cause COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) classifies variants in three categories: Variant of Interest, Variant of Concern and Variant of High Consequences. The CDC has classified B.1.1.7, also known as the U.K. Variant, as a Variant of Concern because of the increased likelihood of severe disease and increased level of transmission. The Shawnee County Health Department (SCHD) urges residents to continue being vigilant about wearing their masks, watching their distance, and washing their hands among other preventative hygiene measures to limit the spread of the COVID-19 in our community. Additionally, it continues to be important to get tested for COVID-19 should an individual begin exhibiting symptoms related to COVID-19 or come in contact with a confirmed positive case. Testing continues to be available and free to Shawnee County residents. To find a location near you, visit: www.gogettested.com/kansas ?With the confirmation of the B.1.1.7 variant in Shawnee County and the recent uptick of COVID-19 cases in Shawnee County and across the nation, it is important that we as a community continue to do what we can to limit the spread of the virus,? said Dr. Erin Locke, Shawnee County Health Officer. ?It?s important to not get complacent; we continue to promote proper mask wear and encourage all eligible Shawnee County residents to get vaccinated when they are able.? Visit the SCHD Vaccine webpage ( http://www.snco.us/hd/COVID19_Vaccination.asp ) or KDHE?s Find My Vaccine tool ( https://www.kansasvaccine.gov/160/Find-My-Vaccine ) to learn more about COVID-19 vaccines and to access the CDC?s VaccineFinder to locate the closest vaccinating provider to you.
