We have about 250 kits left and some funds to make more if needed. Let me know if you have any questions or if you have an event or location you would like to discuss hosting a distribution at. We gave away the first 250 at drive-through distributions in December. These Friday distributions will take place at a kiosk set up inside the ReStore. The Shawnee County Health Department (SCHD) continues to follow the guidance provided by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as it relates to administering COVID-19 vaccine in our community. In an effort to proactively identify individuals that are interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine the SCHD has launched an online survey for those who have been identified as part of the Kansas Vaccination Plan - Phase 2. More information about who is eligible for vaccine in specific phases can be found at www.kansasvaccine.gov . Individuals or organizations that fit the criteria listed, and are interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccine as part of Phase 2 are encouraged to complete the following survey: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/6149227/Shawnee-County-Health-Department-COVID-19-Vaccine-Interest-Form. Additional details for vaccination timeframes and scheduling will be communicated as more details regarding Phase 2 vaccine administration are released and additional vaccine doses become available. ?We encourage all community members to receive the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available to them,? said Craig Barnes, Division Manager Shawnee County Health Department. ?We are working diligently to complete vaccinations of healthcare associated workers and others as part of Phase 1 so that we can quickly move to individuals in Phase 2 when we receive that guidance. Although the first doses of vaccine are here, we must continue to remain vigilant and continue to wear our masks, wash our hands, and watch our distance.? SCHD vaccine administration for Phase 1 individuals is still ongoing, with 1,788 doses of vaccine having been administered as a part of its collaboration with GraceMed. In accordance with current KDHE guidance we will complete the first phase before moving to additional phases. The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine requires two doses, separated by 28 days. Individuals should receive both doses in order to be considered fully vaccinated. Current and future scheduling is based on vaccine availability and may be modified based on the vaccine supply. Questions about COVID-19 vaccine can be directed to HAAdmin at snco.us. As a reminder to the Shawnee County community, the SCHD is still conducting all other immunizations for children and adults through its Clinical Services Department by appointment. Please call 785.251.5700 to schedule an appointment. The SCHD continues to urge the public to practice caution by adhering to the following measures to help reduce transmission of COVID-19 in the Shawnee County community: 1. Avoid close contact with other individuals outside your household. Close contact is defined as contact within 6 feet that lasts 10 cumulative minutes or more. 2. Always wear a mask when in a public place. 3. Avoid large gatherings of people. 4. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. 5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. 6. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. Did you know our next recycling drive is Saturday March 27th? To help our amazing volunteers we are asking that you separate items by type: - Aluminum beverage cans - Steel cans (like cat food and tuna cans), aluminum foil, and pie pans - Other metals (like aluminum sheeting, storm doors, copper pipes, copper fittings, bronze, etc) The recycling service we use requires aluminum beverage cans to be separated from other items and we want to keep our volunteers happy. Please consider separating out items to save time and work for your College Hill neighbors. We are unable to accept appliances, hot water heaters, and other heavy items. However, they can be brought to the NIA recycling/disposal site at 19th and Western on Saturdays between 10 and noon. All Topeka residents (no landlords or businesses) are welcome to use the site. If you have any questions about the recycling/disposal site please contact Scott Marshall at 785-817-0082. The Shawnee County Health Department (SCHD), in following the guidance provided by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, has begun administering vaccine to those individuals listed in Phase 2 of the Kansas? vaccination prioritization plan today. Vaccination clinics scheduled for today and tomorrow are focused on first responders and law enforcement personnel as outlined in Phase 2, as well as those health care associated workers from Phase 1 that have not yet received a vaccine. Individuals or organizations that fit the outlined Phase 2 criteria, and who are interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccine as part of Phase 2 are encouraged to complete the following survey: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/6149227/Shawnee-County-Health-Department-COVID-19-Vaccine-Interest-Form. *Individuals that are unable to complete the survey online may call the COVID Hotline at 785.251.4949 for assistance in completing the survey.* Locally, the Shawnee County Vaccination Collaborative?s speed and progress is based on the number of doses we receive from the State of Kansas, and subsequently what the State receives from the Federal Government. To ensure we are exceeding the transparency needed for these operations, additional details for vaccination timeframes and scheduling will be communicated to those organizations and individuals that have completed the survey as additional vaccine doses become available. Fares have been waived since the last week of March due to the pandemic. On Monday, February 1, passengers must begin boarding through the front entrance of the bus and are required to pay fares. Passengers must have their fare accepted at the farebox or they will not be allowed to ride. Topeka Metro's general manager, Bob Nugent, said that as soon as the decision was made to reinstate fares at the board meeting last month, communications went out to bus operators, passengers, community stakeholders and the public to provide notice to plan ahead for the changes. "What we want passengers to understand is that in the past, bus operators may have helped someone with their bus ticket if it wasn't working in our fare box. The same with money, but because of COVID-19 precautions, operators have been instructed that if the fare does not work, the passenger will not ride. Bus riders need to make sure they don't have a crumpled up bill or bent, frayed or torn pass before they board." Fares will be required for all fixed route buses, paratransit, and the Flex. Masks are still mandatory to ride, and bus operators, although they have a barrier around their driver's seat, are also required to wear face coverings. "It's important that Topeka Metro get back to accepting fare box revenue. We are assuring those who ride with us that we have continued precautions to help passengers stay safe and also keep our employees safe," said Nugent. *Contact:* Keri Renner Director of Marketing & Communications Topeka Metro 201 N.
