Great opportunity to help stock up with fresh food.? We have between 25-30 thousands lbs. of fresh vegs. fruit, dairy, bread & bakery products.? No I.D. required.Parking in the south Expo Parking lot. at the Expo.? The two semi trucks arrive about 8:15 a.m. We start at 9:00.Volunteers are welcome and always needed.? Usually are finished about 11:00.? Great exercise !!Volunteers park in the center of the south parking lot where tables are set up for people who walk to get their food.This is a neighbor helping neighbor project so come and be welcome.Sponsored by Topeka Bible Church andTopeka TurnAround Team

Keep America Beautiful-Topeka/Shawnee County Announces Earth Day
Celebration events rescheduled



In recognition of the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup, and in
celebration of Earth Day the following services have been rescheduled for
residents of Shawnee County, free of charge on Saturday, June 17.



Rolling Meadows Recycling and Disposal Facility will offer a free landfill
day, sponsored by Waste Management of Kansas, Inc.  The landfill located at
7351 N.W. Highway 75 will be open from 7 a.m. to Noon.  To be eligible for
free disposal all loads must be covered, contain no tires, hazardous waste
items or appliances that contain Freon.  The free disposal of trash is
available for individual Shawnee County residents only, no businesses.  For
more information, contact:  246-0305.



The Garick Yard Materials Recycling Facility will also be open the same day
for free disposal of yard waste for all Topeka residents.  The hours will
be 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at I-70 and MacVicar.  They will accept trees,
limbs, leaves and grass.  All loads should be covered or secured.  The free
day is available to all residents of Shawnee County, no businesses.  For
more information, contact 368-3700.



There will be a tire recycling collection for Shawnee County residents
only, sponsored by Shawnee County Health Department with grant funding from
the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.  The tire collection will
be held at Performance Tire and Wheel 1735 N. Kansas Avenue from 8 a.m. ?
noon. ? 4 tires per household.  For more information, call 354-1410.

Comprehensive Parking Plan Announcement
 
The City of Topeka is conducting a Comprehensive Parking Study during 2017.  This study will include a review and assessment of parking in the downtown area.  Public Works has contracted with Desman Design Management, a national parking consultant to conduct the study and develop a downtown parking plan.
 
The plan development includes a study phase to assess current parking conditions. This assessment will include gathering data and planning for future economic development in the downtown area. 

An online survey was launched on June 2, 2017 and will be available through the end of July.  To access the survey, go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/topekaparking .   

Desman Management will utilize information gathered to develop a summary of existing conditions.  This information will lead to the development of recommendations for improving the operations, management and pricing of public parking in Topeka over both short term and long term.

As a reminder the next quarterly College Hill recycling drive is Saturday, July 8th.  We'll take any kind of metal (aluminum and steel cans, old aluminum storm doors, old plumbing fixtures and pipes, etc.) Please place them on your porch in the morning. Be sure to save those cans over the holiday! To arrange a special pick up or to ask questions, please call Carol Christensen at (785) 357-1437.

The neighborhood really appreciates your participation in this fundraiser. We thank and appreciate VERY MUCH all the people who contributed their recyclables. Thank you!
